Into The Future At Silver Lake we are constantly striving to make the driver's education experience as in-depth and cohesive as possible. We do this not only by teaching you how to drive, but also preparing you for the unseen obstacles of the road.

How We Began…

In 2004 Automotive Mechanics High School instructor Matt Maki decided to begin his own driver's education school. He saw a need to offer in-depth driver's training courses that provided the best tools to learn how to drive under any condition.

The Instructors We are a Young Team and we are Eager to help.

Matt Maki Owner / Lead Instructor

Matt Maki is the owner and operator of Silver Lake. He has taught in the automotive field for over 10 years. From mechanical techniques to high-mileage performace, he has worked with some of the best minds in Minnesota and abroad. He brings his vast knowledge of the road and all that is involved with it to the school everyday to pass on his discoveries and "know-how".

Tim Gatz Behind-the-wheel Instructor

Tim Gatz has been in the customer service business for 5 years. He currently has a class A CDL license. He provides adult and teenage BTW instruction for Silver Lake Driving School.

Lauren Whipps Scheduling

Lauren Whipps is a former Silver Lake Driving School student. She works in the office and schedules student BTW instruction.

Make The Call You can complete the courses in one month. If you need more time, no problem, we offer a floating class schedule.

July Schedule Class Meets at 5:30-8:30 pm

August Schedule Class Meets at 5:30-8:30 pm

Costs We believe in a personal one-on-one style of service. We also believe that it should be affordable. Its the best of both worlds.

Teen Program Package Combination (30 Hours Classroom + 6 Hours BTW) $335.00

$100.00 is due at the first lesson.
$135.00 is due on the completion of the last class lesson (includes first BTW payment).
$50.00 is due at the beginning of BTW lessons two and three.

Adult BTW Package $275.00

Price includes raod test and five hours of BTW instruction.

Adult BTW Traning $40.00 Per Hour

Adult Road Test Fee $100.00

We will drive you to and from the road test.

Teenager BTW (6 Hours) $235.00

$75.00 is due at the beginning of each two hour lesson.

Classroom Instruction (30 Hours) $100.00

Payment in full due upon first lesson

Silver Lake Driving School offers a VW Jetta TDI and a Honda Civic LX for BTW training.

Get Insured There are a lot of great insurance companies out there. We work very close with Craig Wilken from Farmer's Insurance Group. We recommend to check them out first.

Mr. Wilken volunteers his time once a month to provide a seminar on the CRASH program. The CRASH program is a Farmer's Insurance Group course that teaches students the importance of safe driving, alcohol and drug abuse, and insurance. This course is included with the full student package. Parents who are currently or willing to switch to Farmer's Insurance are eligible to receive a 25% discount once the student completes the CRASH course.
